ASHBURTON WOMEN’S GAMES. V MATCHES ON SATURDAY. The Ashburton \Vomen’s Hockey Association’s competitions were continued on Saturday in excellent weather. Senior. " In a match at Rakaia, Baring Square beat ’Kereone by seven goals to five, both teams having two handicap. For Baring Square, S. Chibnall scored three goals and J. Jary two. For Kereone, M, O’Reilly, M. Dotg and K. Johnston scored one each. The game, which was fast and interesting, was one of the best seen this season, Baring Square scoring all their goals in the first half. Good combination was shown by the winners, while the Kereone halves and centre forward played good heady games. Mr C. Bishop was referee. _

Fielding only ten players against Lowclirife, ‘at Lowclifi'e, Tinwald (scr)_ was decisively beaten by the home team (handicap three)‘ by nine goals to one. The ground was in a shocking state. For the winners three goals each were scored by J. Hawke and E. Anderson, while M. Henderson scored for Tinwald. Mr W. B. Thomas was referee. The match between Hinds A and Hinds B, to have teen played at Hinds, was postponed, and will prob—ably, be played on Thursday. In a game which was more than the score indicates, Methven (handicap two) beat Rakaia (two goals) by nine goals to five. J. Cleeve put up an outstanding performance for Methven by shooting six goals, and G. Owen shot one. S. Breach netted three goals for Rakaia. Mr H. Glasson was referee. . Junior. The match between Hinds and Rarkaia, which was to have been played at Hinds, was postponed. ' In a. match played at Ashburton, Methven beat Tinwald by eight goals to nil. R. Street shot four and M. Cook and J. Williams two each. Mr D. Harwood was the referee. THE MEN’S SUB-ASSOCIATION. There were no matches in the MidCanterbury Men’s Hockey Sub-Asso—-ciation competitions on Saturday owing to the withdrawal of two teams last week. The senior competition will be re-drawn at a meeting of the SubAssociation this evening. Members of the Sub-Association in—troduced the game to a number of schoolboys at the Ashburton Domain on Saturday and arrangements were made; for a- match between teams picked from Ashburton and ’l‘inwald play.ers next Saturday.
