WOMEN'S INSTITUTE.

ALLENTON ANNUAL MEETING. \ FOURTH YEAR'S WORK REVIEWED. The fourth annual meeting of the RUenton Women's Institute was held on Saturday, the president (Mrs J. Stevenson) occupying the chair. There was a good attendance of members and visitors, three new members being elected. Mrs E. S. Chambers was appointed delegate to the formation meeting of the Mid-Canterbury Federation on April 5. Hostesses were appointed for the group picnic on April 4= } and Mesdames J. Stevenson and A. Walker were elected to represent the Institute at the Wakanui birthday party. The annual report was read by the secretary, and the financial statement presented by the treasurer. The report showed that the Institute had experienced a very successful year, there being a satisfactory credit balance. The president thanked the secretary, the treasurer and the committee for their assistance during the year, and also all who had entered for the competitions and helped to make the meetings enjoyable. Mrs Vincent expressed thanks to the outgoing committee, and Mrs D. A. Morgan passed a vote of thanks to the young members for their practical help. Votes of thanks were also accorded Mr E. S. Chambers for auditing the books, Mr E. C. Bathurst for his assistance at the Christmas party, and the "Guardian" for publishing reports. The retiring president (Mrs J. Stevenson) and the secretary (Miss K. Copland) were presented with bouquets by Mesdames E. S. Chambers and E. C. Bathurst, respectively, in recognition of their work.

The aggregate prizes for the year were presented by the president as follow:—Mrs E. S. Chambers 1, Mrs L. Walker 2, Mrs A. Corbitt 3. Two competitions for non-prize-winners (sponge sandwich and article made from one yard of britway) were both won by Mrs L. McNatty. The election of the committee resulted as follows:—(President, Mrs E. S. Chambers; vice-presidents, Mesdames R. Mclnnes and L. A. Walker; secretary, Miss K. Copland; assistant hon. secretary, Miss I. Goss; treasurer, Mrs E. C. Bathurst; committee, Mesdames J. Stevenson, E. Vincent, H. Stevens, A. Cbrbitt, A. Cambridge, G. Harris and Miss M. Tonks. The hostesses were Mesdames J. Osborne, A. McKay, H. Sharplin, C. Hardie and Miss K. Copland.
