V P. BOOT'S HALF-MILE. The last series of the Christchurch inter-club amateur athletic competition on Saturday was little more than a picnic event for most of the athletes. V. P. Boot (University), well known in Ashburton, ran an easy half-mile in fair time —2min 2 4-ssec —winning as he pleased. If he is in form for the University tournament at Dunedin he may do much better time. THE HINDS CLUB. A meeting of the general committee of the Hinds Amateur Athletic Club was held in the Domain building, Mr A. Annett presiding. A vote of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr Ainsley Moore was carried. Mr Annett spoke of the good work which Mr Moore had done for the club, having been judge for several athletic events. The committee approved of Mr Cairns and Mr Wellman, of Ashburton, for running side-shows in the club's interest. Entries for the handicap events in the children's sports will' close on Friday. Mr W. P. Ford was appointed judge for piping and dancing events. The committee is endeavouring to stop aeroplanes flying over the grounds, as this is an annoyance in the dancing and piping events.
