THE MEN'S ASSOCIATION. REQUEST FOR INDIAN MATCH. The annual meeting of the Mid-Can-terbury Men's Hockey Sub-Association was held on Saturday evening, the president (Mr E. M. Gabites) occupying the chair. The annual report stated that the standard of play had been more than maintained, with the very pleasing result that the representative team went through the season undefeated, the results being: Against Geraldine, won, 3-2; against South Canterbury, won, 2-1' against Malvern, won, 7-1; against "Canterbury Colts, won, 2-1. However, there is still room for expansion in the number of teams, and an improvement in this direction would

create a much greater interest m the competitions. The remedy to some extent must lie in greater interest being taken by" senior players in the junior competition. The senior competition (four clubs) was keenly contested and was won by the St. Andrew's team with Ashburton runner-up, while the junior competition was won by the St. Stephen's team. A five-a-side tournament was held and the winners were: Seniors, St. Andrew's; juniors, St. Stephen's, and schoolboys, linwald. The thanks of the sub-association wfere due to the Canterbury Association tor its continued interest and practical help, the Ashburton Women's Association for the use of grounds, the Ashburton Hockey Umpires' Association, to Tvlr A. E. Clarke for the use of a room for meetings, and the "Guardian." The balance-sheet showed that there was a credit, balance of £6 7s, compared with £ll 13s 4d at the commencement of the season, the entertainment of visiting teams accounting for the difference. Mr A. L. Graham (secretary ol the Canterbury Hockey Association) was elected delegate to the Canterbury Association. It was decided that each club should nominate one non-playing member to the management committee. 'The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr F. W. Watt; president, Mr E. M. Gabites; vicepresidents, Messrs 6. W. Gower, W. C. Bishop, M. Baker, and W. B. Thomas; secretary, Mr S. M. Cassidy; treasurer Mr L. Armstrong; auditor, Mr W. B. Thomas. ' The Indian team's tour was discussed, / and it was decided to apply to the New Zealand Hockey Association, through the Canterbury Hockey Association for a match at Ashburton. Appreciation of the serviecs of Mr S. W. Gower as secretary over the past five years was expressed.
