(From Our Own Corresponaents.) METHVEN. A meeting of the Mount Hutt District Returned Soldiers’ Association was held in the Road Board’s offices, Methven on Wednesday evening. There were present Messrs L. Burrows (chairman), A. G. Foreman, A. C. Gaud, G. Waddington, L. L. Richards, J. Temple, H. J. Freeman, P. Cookson and E. Hawkhead (honorary secretary). It was decided to hold the annual parade on Anzac Day and to invite the Methven Pipe Band to supply music. It was also agreed that Mr M. P. W. Blathwayt be asked to give the address ou Anzac_Day. It was decided that the annual reunion be held on Wednesday, April 17 and that arrangements for entertainers lie left in MiForeman's hands. The secretary was instructed to send a letter of appreciation to Mr C. L. Griffiths for supplying a wreath last Anzac Day. Messrs Cookson, Waddington, Foreman, Temple and Hawkhead were appointed a refreshment committee. A vote of thanks was passed to the Mount Hutt Road Board for the use of its offices, and to Mr L. Burrows (president) for the excellent manner in which he had carried out his duties during the past year. At a meeting of the Methven ’Women’s Institute on Thursday afternoon Messrs Dove (president), W. Turner and McKie, of the New Zealand Poultry Producers’ - Federation, gave addresses on the aims and objects of the Federation. Twenty members handed in their names with a view to the formation. of a branch. A series of from four to-six meetings would be held aninually and addresses by (competent poultry experts from Christchurch would be delivered. It was decided to proceed with the formation of a branch and a further meeting will be called later.

The hours at the Methven telephone exchange— from 6 a.m. to mid-night—came into force yesterday.

RAKAIA. The weekly meeting of the- Rakaia Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild was held at the residence of Mrs E. E. Oakley on Wednesday afternoon. There was a large attendance. A vocal solo was contributed by Miss M. Lee, pianoforte solos by Miss M. Lee and Mrs Ashford, part songs by the company. Competitions were won by Miss M. Lee, Mrs G. Shannon and Mrs Liddington. Final arrangements were made for the “Fair of AH Nations.” The hostess was Mrs E. E. Oakley. A bring and buy stall of produce realised £1 12s Id. EALING. The Ealing Girls’ Club held a successful dance on Tuesday evening, the hall being tastefully decorated. The winners of the novelty dances were: Monte Carlo, Miss Janet Ross and Mr J. Metcalf; lucky spot, Miss Irene Rowell and Mr W. Metcalf. The waltzing competition was judged by Mr Saren, the winners being Miss Joan Barton and Mr A. Poppehvell. Music was supplied by Ivelland’s orchestra extras being played by Miss F. McGuigan and Miss H. Galletly. Mr D. Simpson was master of ceremonies. STAVELEY. The annual meeting of the Staveley Women’s Institute was held in the hall on Wednesday. Mrs A. W. Rufesel! presided over a good attendance. It was deckled to make arrangements to attend the meeting of the Mid-Can-terbury Federation in Ashburton at the beginning of next month. Motions of sympathy in cases of illness were passed with Mrs G. L. Bufton and Miss E. Christiansen. The president reported on the year’s work, .regretting a sliglit drop in membership which, however, had been due to removals from the district and not lack of interest. A vote of thanks to the president and officers was passed. Ihe treasurer’s report showed a balance in hand of £7. Mr S. F. Marshall gave a talk on behalf of the New Zealand Producers’ Federation and urged the formation of an egg circle. He was supported by Mr Turner ‘ a poultry fanner. A competition for soap was won by Mrs L. Hicks, with Mrs A. Wright second. The thrift stall was in charge of Mrs A. R. Andrews. With the election of ALiss Doris Goldsmith as a member, the president congratulated the Goldsmith family on having three generations in the Institute’s membership. King were appointed delegates to the district conference on Saturday.
