BASKETBALL.

THE ST. STEPHEN’S CLUB. The annual meeting of the St. Stephen’s Basketball Club was held last evening, Lady Nosworthy presiding. The annual report stated that the 1934 season was a very successful one. The club had senior, junior and third grade teams and tne membership totalled 27. The senior team was second equal in the Ashburton Association’s competitions. Annual visits were exchanged with the Lincoln and Tai Tapu Clubs, Ashburton winning all four fixtures, two away from Ashburton and two on the home ground. A satisfactory sum was raised at a dance field in am of the funds. Much of the success of the teams was due to the coaching of Mr Li. J. Thompson and the club expressed its gratitude to him lor Ins painstaking service. Thanks was also expressed to the vice-presi-dents and members generally for their work. The president tyvirs \Y. A. Fleming) left the district during the season ana was farewelled at a garden paity. The balance-sheet disclosed a credit of £3 Us 3d, compared with one of £2 ils od last year. The following officers were elected President, Mrs A. Prentice; vice-presi-dents, Lady Nosworthy, Mesdames M. F. Mahoney, W. fcipeddmg, A. M. Meredith, A. J. Petrie, and A. J. Kawstorn, Miss I. Coward, Messrs C. Ives and A. M. Meredith; secretary, Miss K. B. Coward; treasurer,/Miss M. Walilis; committee, Misses M. Peez, V* Witheli, H. Hickey, I. Anderton, O. and R. Spedding, and O. Mahoney ; representative on Ashburton Basketball Association, Mr C. Ives; club captain, Miss K. B. Coward; auditor, Mr 0. ives; social committee, Misses M. Gass, E. Weston, L. Childs, J. Chambers, M. Opie, L. White, and 1. Clarke; delegate to Ashburton Sports Association, Mr A. M. Mereditn; coach, Mr R. j. Thompson. . It was decided to enter one semo and two junior teams in the Ashburton competitions. A resolution of sympathy was passed with Mrs Prentice in the illness of her husband. TECHNICAL OLD GIRLS’ CLUB. The Ashburton Technical High School Old Girls’ Basketball Club held its annual meeting last evening, Miss i. McLennan presiding. Tne balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £5 9s lOd, The annual report stated that five members gained county representative honours. The senior team won the knock-out competition and was runnerup in the senior competition. The following officers were elected President, Mr G. Bowman; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames H. S. Harper, M. M. Ward, E. J. Elliott, and- M. Cowan, Messrs G. Hefford, senr., C. Segeis, R. J. Thompson, and J. Thompson; secretary and treasurer, Miss J. Crowther; delegate to Ashburton Basketball Association, Miss M. Crowtlrer; coach Mr 11. J. Thompson.
