HOCKEY.
METHVEN LADIES' CLUB. The annual meeting of the Methven Ladies' Hockey Club was held in the Anglican Hall on Wednesday evening, Mrs Johns presiding over an attendance of twenty-five. The report stated that the club had enjoyed a most successful season. Teams had 1 been entered in the senior and junior County competitions. The seniors had not been successful, but tho juniors had won their competition. Teams had also contested six-a-side tournaments at Ashburton, while the club’s own six-a-side tournament held in the Domain in September liad been a great success, oyer 40 teams faking part. The addition of men’s five-a-side matches was responsible for much of the success attained. Five members had represented the County at the Dominion tournament held at Christchurch. These were Misses T. Williams, M. Owen, F. Dalton, S. Law, and E. Cleeve. Misses E. and M. Cretney and M. Ayers also represented the County in representative matches. A number of card evenings and socials had been held to the benefit of the finances. The balance-sheet showed a satisfactory balance with no outstanding liabilities. Five new members were elected. A letter was received from Mr A. G. McHardy (Ashburton) asking to be re-
lieved of his position as delegate to the Ashburton Ladies’ Hockey Association. It was decided to write to Mr McHardy expressing appreciation of his services as delegate during the last 10 years. , The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr J. Connolly, M.P.; president, Mr G. Johns; vice-presidents, Mesdames W. J. Owen, G. R. Cleeve, A. G. Carr, G. King, and C H. Watson • honorary secretary, Miss M. Ayers; honorary treasurer, Mr G. Johns; committee, Mesdames A. W. McKendry, F. Brown, Misses M. Owen, E. Sullivan, E. Cleeve, and M. Cretney; delegates to Ashburton Ladies’ Hockey Association, Mrs Johns and Mr W. J. Owen (local), and Mr W. Thomas (Ashburton). It was decided to hold the official opening day on April 13. It was agreed to donate one guinea each to the Ashburton Referees’ Association and Christchurch Referees’ Association as a recognition of their assistance on the occasion of the annual six-a-side tournament at Methven. A vote of thanks was accorded the outgoing officials and all who had assisted during the year In connection with the dance arranged for May 6 it was decided to invite the Methven Football Club o co-operate in holding football and hockey matches on the Domain on that date and to join with the Hockey Club in running the dance at night on a fifty-fifty basis. . . ~ The matter of entering teams m the County competitions was held over until after the first practice game.
