LATE COMMERCIAL
ASHBURTON STOCK MARKET. LARGE SUPPLY THIS MORNING. PRICES; SHOW A DECLINE. There was a large supply of sheep at the Ashburton yards this morning, when the first sale for two weeks was held, and bidding was for the most part lacking in spirit. Fully half the sheep, offered were shorn. Prices early showed a. decline and the fall on sales made up to midday was from Is 6d to 2s a head on prices ruling a fortnight ago. In the shorn wether section top price of 21s 3d for one was obtained by Mr J. Robertson, of Winclmiore, while in shorn ewes-top price went to a client with I9s 7d for seven, Mr J. Robertson being next with 18s 4d for two. The lambs put in by Mr W. A. Read, of Waterton, brought 20s 4d. Mr A. Kane, of Ashburton, obtained 20s 4d for two ewes in the wool, and a client was next highest with 20s Id for three. Mr Kane also topped the market for hoggets, putting in one which went at 22s 9d.

Sir Robert Home (President of the Imperial Smelting Corporation) said that the net profit was £124,984, compared with £129,880 last year.. The plant had been expanded but the industry was not yet giving a fair return. The company's efforts to aid resuscitation of gold niining in Australia thus far had been successful. The company had almost completely reorganised the British zinc industry and should shortly employ 2500 men, expending £600,000 in wages annually. BRADFORD WOOL MARKET.
