FOOTBALL.
SPRINGBOKS FOR FIFTH TEST (Received This Day, 10.15 a.m.) CAPE TOWN, August 27. The Springbok Rugby team for the fifth Test against Australia is: White, Brand, Waring, Grey, Lyster, Osier, Craven, S. C. Louw, Kipling, Geere, Smollen, Nel, Bergh, M. Louw, and Apsey. MATCHES AT MOUNT SOMERS. Two friendly football matches were played at Mount Somers on Saturday, the first between teams representing the Staveley-Bushside and Mt. Somers Boy Scouts, and the second between teams representing the Ashburton Gorge and Mount Somers districts. They were witnessed by one of the largest attendances of spectators seen at Mount Somers this season. After a closely contested game the Staveley-Bushside Scouts won by 7 points to 6. For the winners H. Gundry drop kicked a goal, and R. Syme scored a try. For Mount Somers G. Vincent and J. King each scored a try. Mr E. C. Wood was referee.
There were many thrills in the Ashburton Gorge v. Mt. Somers game, and although the Gorge were pitted against more experienced players they made a surprising stand. Mount Somers won by 23 points to 14. For Mount Somers. tries were scored bv R, R. Beckley (3), H. Hood, J. S. Faga.ii, W- McCliinont. Bcckley kicked a penalty goal and converted a try. For the Ashburton Gorge tries were scored by S. M. A. Chaffey, J. Syme and J. Harrison, the latter convertnp; a try and kicking a penalty goal. The Rev. E. A. Osmers was referee.
