THE WEATHER.

BRIGHT BUT COLD AGAIN. Although the sun shone in a practically clear sk- all day to-day, the temperature was not high, for a cold wind blew from a south-westerly direction. A frost of nine degrees was recorded this morning. Conditions in Ashburton yesterday were mainly dull and cold. The sky remained overcast .for most of the day and a keen wind blew from the northeast. As a result of the misty rain on Saturday night, two points of rain were recorded at the Domain wearier station yesterday mornj,ng for the 24 hours ended at 9 o'clock.

The barometric pressure at 9 a.m. to-day was 29.94 inches, compared with 29.97 inches yesterday morning and 30.14 inches oil Saturday.

I Extremes of shade temperature yesterday and last night were 42.8 degrees and 29 degrees, and the readings on Saturday were 45.3 degrees and 33.9 degrees.

TO-DAY'S FORECAST. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued .the following statement regarding the weather:— General inference: An intense anticyclone covers Australia and extends toward southern New Zealand, but pressure remains low to the eastward, and a rather shallow C3 7 clcne is developing in the North Tasman Sea, A continuance of southerly or soath-easterly weather is indicated. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamai-u is as follows: . Light to moderate southerly to south-easterly winds, increasing gradually, especially to northwards. Weather : Cloudy to overcast and cold; showers or misty rain at times on and near the coast, finer inland, some fogs and hard frosts. Seas: Moderate, with a heavy south-westerly swell.
