MORTGAGE VALUES.
DRASTIC REVISION WANTED.
TARANAKI FARMERS' VIEWS
(Per Press Association).
NEW PLYMOUTH, June 16
That a drastic downward revision of mortgage values should be made immediately, was the text of a resolution adopted by 100 farmers at a public meeting to-day, which was attended by Messrs C. A. Wilkinson, S. G. Smith and W. J. Poison, M.P.'s. Several schemes for the revaluation and adjustment of mortgages were read, including Mr »C. A. Wilkinson's and one planned by a business man, to meet both the borrower and the lender. It was decided to urge the Government to appoint a special committee to consider them and similar plans, and a deputation was appointed to wait on the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates at Hawera.
Justice had to be done to the mortgagee, said Mr Poison, during his address. He said that he could not forget that responsibility. Determined as he was to help his fellow farmers, he would not be a party to robbing his fellow-citizens of their just share at the instance of any other class. The tone of the meeting, was that just and equitable arrangements to both parties were desirable.
