MISSIONARY UNION.
METHODIST WOMEN'S ACTIVITIES. VISIT OF MAORI PARTY. A meeting of the Ashburton branch of the Methodist Women's Missionary Union was held in the Baring Square Schoolroom yesterday afternoon to coincide with the visit of the Maori Mission party to Ashburton. The president (Sister Mildren) presided over a good attendance and led the devotions, special prayer being offered on behalf of the missionaries at work on the home and foreign fields. Arrangements were made for, a gift afternoon on Wednesday, July 19, when contributions to the Christmas box for the Solomon Islands would be received.
An appeal on behalf of the Kuruhuna Maori Girls' School was received and held over for consideration next month.
Tea was served, ' and the president extended a very cordial welcome to the members of the mission party, and a delightful musical programme was contributed by the visitors.
Sister Rangimarie Ellison spoke of her work as a deaconess among her own people, in the Taranaki district. The urgent needs of the people, the difficulties experienced, the opportunities for service, and the joys of success in helping others temporally and spiritually, were related in a most interesting manner. Miss Hinerangi Hikuroa also gave her experiences as a pupil at the Kurahuna School, which were both amusing and instructive. Miss A. C. Watson moved, and Mrs B. H. Carter seconded, a very hearty vote of thanks to the speakers and performers.
