FOOTBALL.
THE FRACAS AT MASTERTON. TWO TEAMS SUSPENDED. MASTERTON, June 16. The Wairarapa Rugby Union had before it at its monthly meeting at Carterton last night reports concerning the- football fracas at Masterton last Saturday. The referee reported that he had ordered W. R. Hadfield, Gladstone, off the held for allegedly kicking a player on the ground. It was alleged that after leaving the field the offending player had criticised the referee's ruling and had urged players to "put the boot in." Hadfield, it was stated, had been ordered off within ten minutes of the start of the game.
11l reply, to a question, tho referee said that he considered that the case was one of indiscriminate kicking. As Hadfield had not complied with a request to appear before the union, he was suspended until he did so. In connection with the trouble that developed later in the game, it was decided to hold a full investigation into the matter at a special meeting next Thursday night. In the meantime both the Gladstone and Masterton junior teams were suspended. Two senior players in another match were suspended for one Saturday. Botb players had been ordered off the field by the referee.
