The Nelson Trotting Club's annual meeting opened at Greymouth to-day in beautiful weather. There was a fair attendance. The track was in good order, but hard. The totalisator investments were £5997, compared with £19.77 last year, when only one day was held at Nelson.
Following the running of the Richmond Handicap, the owner of War Officer, the favourite, waited on the stipendiary steward, and asked him to look into the running of the horse. It was found that the hopples: had been altered to inches longer. The owner and trainer produced mirieient evidence completely to exonerate the running of the horse. Concluding results:— Intermediate Handicap, of, 110 sovs; class 3.3; one mile and a quarter- 1 (2) Gunmetal 1,2 (l),Ruin 2, 3 (3) Recess 3. Won by a length; a neck between second and third. Time, 2.52 2-5. Brightwater Handicap, of 120 sovs; class 5.1; one mile and six furlongs—--4 (4) Don Chenault 1, 1 (1) Bronte 2, 3 (3) Olson 3. Won by four lengthseight lengths separating second and third. Time, 4.11.
Tahuna Handicap, of 110 sovs; class 2.59; one mile and a quarter—2 (1) Ruin 1, 4 (4) Lilian Bond 2, 6 (6) Fernbrook Lass 3. Won by half a length; two lengths between second and third. Time, 2.52 2-5.
Dash Handicap, of 120 sovs; class 2.19; one mile—2 (3) Royal Parade 1, 4 (2) Lord Leslie 2, 7 (9) Linella 3. Won by a length; the same distance between second and third. Time, 2.17.
