RELEASE REFUSED

THE IMPRISONED ENGINEERS.

NOT EVEN CONSIDERATION.

UNTIL EMBARGO IS LIFTED

(United Press Association—Copyright). (Received This Day, 12.40 p.m.) LONDON, June 10.

The "Daily Telegraph" says that M. Litvinoff (Soviet Commissar, for Foreign Affairs) met Sir'Felix Polo (chairman of Metropolitan Vickers, Ltd.) and refused even to consider the release of Thornton and MacDonald until Britain has lifted the embargo on Russian goods. M. Litvinoff added that in Russia appeals were (rarely heard before a year after a conviction—six months at the earliest. He saw no reason to expedite the procedure in the case of Thornton and MacDonald unless Britain facilitated it.
