SERIOUS LEAKAGE.

LOSS AT FOXTON GASWORKS.

24 P.C. OF PRODUCTION

(Special to the “ Guardian.”) FOXTON, June 14,

The Foxton Borough Council is baffled by a constant, unaccountable, and serious loss of gas at the municipal gasworks. The leakage lias been going on now for considerably over twelve months and last month amounted to 21 per cent., of the total production.

When the position came up for dismission at last night’s meeting Cr. D. R. Barron took a serious view of the matter. He said in an attempt to discover the cause services had been inspected and renewed, meters overhauled and tested, a new station meter installed and a consulting engineer called in, all at considerable expense, and now the council was no nearer solving the trouble.

The mayor said the works were out of date, but- operating satisfactorily. He admitted that while every other channel had been explored the mains had not been inspected. The council could not replace them on account of the enormous cost this would involve. The clerk said the loss amounted to 100 ft. an hour and suggested a test of the holder at night when there should be little or no consumption. This would show whether the loss was in the mains or not.

It was decided v to carry out the suggestion and a report will be submitted to the next meeting.
