FARMERS’ UNION.

THE WOMEN’S DIVISION. THIRD BIRTHDAY PARTY. The Ashburton branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union held their third birthday party in the Tancred Street Hpll on Friday# The president (Mrs J. A. Fleming) welcomed those present, including representatives from country branches of the union*, and also representatives ol the Ashburton Women’s Institute. A vote of sympathy was passed to Mrs Horsey in her bereavement. Items were given as follow: Pianoforte solo, Miss H. Johnston; song, Miss W. Bruce; recitation, Miss W. Andreiv; duet, Mrs Riddick and Miss Fleming. Mrs P. J. Andrew' gave a very interesting demonstration on rug making. The president, on behalf of the division, thanked 1 those who had contributed items during the afternoon, and the County Automobile Association for the use of its rooms, and those members who had helped to make the afternoon such an enjoyable one. Afternoon tea was then served. Mrs Regg made a presentation to Mrs Riddick, who has been secretary for the past two years, and Mrs McCoskor conveyed greetings from the Riverside Women’s Institute. Mrs W T . Hammond spoke on behalf of the Mid-Canterbury Executive of the farmers’ union. The birthday cake, which was made and presented l by Mrs Sargent, was cut by tho president, while Mrs Sargent lit the three candles.
