PIGEON SHOOTING.

THE METHVEN CLUB. The Methven Gun Club was favoured with perfect weather, when it held a shoot on the Mount Harding Racecourse on Saturday afternoon. There was a good muster of shooters, and under the favourable conditions a good afternoon’s sport was enjoyed. Three clay shoots were held, and inaddition a live pigeon match was put on in view of the approaching live pigeon match which commences the series of national shoots held by the various gun clubs in Canterbury during the week. The standard of shooting was above the usual in each shoot, and particularly in the first trophy match. In the three clay matches a shoot-off was necessary before the winner was decided, while there was also a tie in the pigeon match. A. McLeod, who has only fired over the trap once before this season, struck form and put up a. creditable performance in, winning the two cups competed for, and being runner up in the live bird match. The latter match tried the skill of competitors, for the birds were strong and quick off the mark. The best scores in the various shoots were as follow: Nine-clay-bird Handicap, N.Z. Breweries Trophy, with sweepstake.

The stake was divided between G. A. Franks and Corbett, Harrison, Ward and'Cooksley, who shot off for the trophy. Harrison and Ward retired after missing their second bird. Franks missed the fourth. Corbett and Cooksley each missed the sixth, and. went on until Cooksley missed the eighth, leaving Corbett the winner. President’s Cup, 14-bird, with added sweepstake.

McLeod and Harrison divided first money and the five others divided secand third. The shoot off between Harrison and McLeod resulted in each missing the third bird anil they went on until Harrison missed his sixth bird, leaving McLeod the winner of tho trophy for tho first time. Past Presidents’ Cup, 10th Shoot, 14 Clay Birds.

Anderson, McLeod and Ward divided first and second money, Harrison taking third. Tho shoot-off resulted in Ward missing his second leaving McLeod and Anderson to go on until the latter missed bis eleventh bird and McLeod was the winner of the trophy for tho first time. Live Pigeon sweepstake match of 10 Birds.

Harrison and Franks divided first and second money, McLeod taking third money.
