HOCKEY.
TOURNEY AT TIMARU. TINWALD AGAIN VICTORIOUS. Favoured by fine weather, a good afternoon’s hockey was witnessed oil Saturday, before a 1 large attendance, on the occasion of the womens six-a-side tournament at the Timaru 4 ark. Tiro ground was a trifle heavy, making control difficult, but a high standard of hockey was maintained by all teams. Tinwald, who have a great record at tourneys, were again victorious m tiro senior section, this being the second year in succession they have von t . honour in Timaru. All. the games were won with comparative ease excepting that against T?irnt», tho lattes team extending them into three spells, and Tinwald just winning by halt a P °Results were as follow: Senior Section.—Stafford 1 V- Arawa 0- Pirata 1 v. Oran 0; Tinwald 3 v. Stafford 0; Pirata 2 v. Arawa 0: .l.mwald 2 v. Qrari 0: Stafford 0 v. Pirata 2; Qrari 3 y. Arawa 0. Semi-finals —Tinwald -* v. 1 n’aua 0. This was the best exhibition ol tiro dav. There was no score at time, and, in "the third spell, Tinwald, with an excellent rally, gamed the advantage, sending the ball behind the Pnata s line. . _ Final —Tinwald 3 v. Arawa 0. Tinwald, with their _ machine-like combination, had no difficulty in disposing of Arawa, having tiro latter in their twenty-five throughout tiro game. F. Gudsell (two) and S. Milhchamp (one) registered goals, thus making J inwald winners of the senior section, scoring eight points, Pirata (Oamaru) being runners-up with six points. The winning team was—S. Henderson (captain), F. Gudsell, N. Gudsell, A. Loach, S. Milliehamp, A. Chap--111 At the conclusion of the games, tiro president of the South Ganteibuij Hockev Association, Mr W. Gow, presented'the cups to the winners ol each
section. Ho stated that Tinwald, the winners of tho senior cup, had a unique record in tournaments in the last few years, namely, 1929 (3), 1930 (3), 1931* (5), and 1932 (3). , Hearty cheers were given for the winners, also for Pirata the runners-up. METHVEN WINS BY DEFAULT. The only match in the Ashburton Ladies’ Hockey Association’s competitions set down, to he played on Saturday was that between Ashburton and Methven in the senior A grade. Methveni won the match by default.
