Nearly all the inmates of the Home for the Aged at Canton perished in floods which resulted in more than 200 deaths and 1,000,0U0 dollars’ wortn ot damage. Tiha rapid rise of the river augmented a torrential deluge, which submerged many of the suburbs, many lives being lost through the houses collapsing and fires breaking out.
