PRODUCT OF SLACK COAL. OIL ALSO DISTILLED. LONDON, July 18. The dawn of an important commercial enterprise, which may make Butain independent of foreign oil supphes was indicated by the Duke of Montrose in addressing representatives of coal, iron and steel trades. The Duke announced that a proerr for transforming millions of tons 0 slack coal, worth from 2s to 3s a ton into valuable smokeless fuel and ci. was the result of distillation experiments at Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire. The output, lie said, was 3UL tons a day.
