NEGLECTED FOOTPATH.
Sir, —Just a few comments re the unasphalted footpatli in Burnett Street West. Now that the tarring of footpaths is in full progress, I would like to ask why this unasphalted path is continually neglected, and left in a disgraceful state; in fact, has been for years, weeds and overgrown grasss are allowed to grow at their leisure. The residents and ratepayers have to put up with this state of affairs, especially in die winter time, or on wet days, when it is impossible to walk along that same footpath without getting wet footwear. During the drought in January, one of the Councillors suggested! that residents should cut the long grass in their sections, well why do they not carry out the same suggestion re this untidy footpath. One fire was started along that footpath in ; January and burnt several yards along the grass under the macrocarpa fence. Luckily a resident happened to see it, and was cm the spot just in time to prevent further conflagration. Trusting the Borough’ Council will give this matter their immediate attention, and thanking you for valuable space in your paper. RATEPAYER..
