IN CHARGE OF A.B.

SMALL SHIP IN COLLISION. (Per Press Association.). AUCKLAND, March 16. During the hearing of a marine inquiry into a slight collision between small ships in the Hauraki Gulf, it was stated that tho master of one ship of 31 tons gross had gone below after passing North Head and left an A.B. to take the vessel out of port. Addressing the Court, counsel for the master of tho other vessel said that ho had again to complain, of the Marine Department allowing a vessel to lie taken out of port by an uncertified officer. Tho Officers' Guild had protested against the practice and counsel suggested that the Court should do a good service to the mercantile marine by adding a rider to its finding. Decision was reserved.
