Effects of Engine Imparks.—The Rev. Mr Westbrooki writes saying that the plantation just the other side of Chertsey has been greatly burnt and a great many of the young gums, either killed or thrown back several years. The .same fate has befallen a plantation of gums on Mr Passmore's estate, on the Methven line. All this damage has been caused by engine sparks. The assassin, who threw a bomb, was arrested. His name is Rousahoff.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From "The Guardian," Mar. 17. 1006) Personal.—Miss A. Aynsley, of Rakaia South, has been appointed, assistant mistress in the North Canterhijry Education Board's Training College. The Hakatere Club.—Some couple'of months ago the Hakatere Ciub committee, with a view of further popularising the club, and as a means of providing; amusement for those members who are not actively engaged in outdoor games decided to take steps to provide an up-to-date .billiard table for use by members. members and supporters of the Club, debentures were readily taken up, and as a result a table has been duly placed in the Club rooms. During the winter months it should prove .a very acceptable addition to an already liberally endowed clubroom. Harvest—Our Chertsey correspondent writes that the harvest is nearly over in that district, and the threshing mills have almost, finished as all the stook threshing is nearly completed, what is in the stack not being fit for threshing yet.
