Though there was not so large an attendance of the public as on former occasions, there was no doubt about the success of the Mayfield Agricultural and Pastoral Association's eleventh annual Show, held on the Mayfield Showgrounds on Saturday. The weather conditions were all that could have been desired, not a cloud appeared in the sky all day long and the sun shone strongly. The gate takings totalled £lll 13s, against £IBO last year, but for all that the Association should come out on the right side of the ledger. Strong counter-attractions, combined with the general feeling of depression financially evidently accounted for the lower attendance. Those who patronised the Show, however, realised that in. spite of the adverse conditions with which the farming community is now contending, the district as a whole, and many outside centres, had given splendid support in the matter' of entries. In quality the exhibits in every class were high and in most cases higher than usual. The Mayfield Show can be relied upon, even though it has been functioning only since the war, to produce something well worth while. Sheep have always been one of the Show's strong points and on Saturday, this section attracted, as much interest as any other. Oji the whole the high standard set in previous years, was maintained, and in.many instances was surpassed. The horse sections again were a centre of attraction, and the parade of prize-winning stock focussetl attention on the ring. The Show was officially opened by Sir William Nosworthy, who congratulated the Association on its excellent exhibition. Officials had a busy time throughout the day. The following are the concluding awards:—
