THE WILDING SHIELD. WELLINGTON LOSE TO AUCKLAND WELLINGTON, March 15. By nine rubbers to three, 21 sets to 11, audi 167 games to 134, Auckland yesterday defeated Wellington for the Wilding Shield. As on Friday, the weather was perfect and the courts at Miramar eo<uld not have been bettered. The takings constituted a record for Wellington, more even than was taken at the Wilding Shield matches against Canterbury.

Trailing by two rubbers to four on the first 1 , day's play, Wellington faced! a huge task, having to win. five of the six matches to retain the trophy. The outstanding performance of the series was that of D. G. France, who by his defeat of the New Zealand champion, showed that he is the best player in New Zealand.
