PROTECTION OF MORTGAGORS. LEGISLATION PROMISE-ID. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, March 13. Replying in the House of Representatives to questions asked by Mr Williams (Bay of Plenty) and Mr Munhs (Rcskill). 'the Prime' Minister stated that the Government would introduce legislation dealing with the question of calling up mortgages as*the result o: the present difficult economic situation. It was proposed to appoint some form of tribunal to decide whether in view of all the circumstances it was advisable to postpone calling up mortgages. Mr Williams drew attention " to the difficulties being encountered by the farming community. He said he was not asking for a general moratorium, but power to review special cases. Mr Munns stated that of twentyone property sales advertsied in one day in an Auckland newspaper nineteen were mortgagees' sales. He thought it might be possible to bring debtor and creditor together to the benefit of both.
