RUAPUNA. 9 The third of a series of hare drives in aid of the school and swimming funds was held on Saturday afternoon. There was a good attendance and an enjoyable afternoon was spent. Eighty odd hares were accounted for. STAVELEY. Dr. H. E. Annett, the noted grassland expert, paid a short visit to the district last week, inspecting some of the pastures. On All* A. W. Russell s property (Wairere Soldiers’ Settlement) lie was shown pastures with cocksfoot and crested dogstail as the dominant grasses. AY lien told that these pactures had been down for 40 years and had never been top-dressed Dr. Annatt expressed astonishment at their present quality. It is noteworthy that another example of excellent pasture on Air F. Eder’s place at Staveley the dominant grasses are also cocksfoot and crested dogstail. This pasture has been down about 10 years, and has been heavily limed. Both these pastures are close to the'hills on heavy soil inclined to be clayey, but both are splendid dense soles of luxurious feed and show what can be accomplished in the locality.
