INTRUDER CHASED
SURPRISED IN A HOUSE. AN AUCKLAND INCIDENT. I " (Special to the “Guardian.”) AUCKLAND, August 25. Surprised in a house in Point Chevalier at nine o’clock on Saturday evening, an intruder was captured by a resident after a chase through some sections for a quarter of a mile. A screen shifted from its position on the back porch of his house aroused the suspicions of Mr B. J. Bull, of 6, Moa Street, when he returned to his house with his wife after an absence of twenty-five minutes. Airs Bull immediately left to call the police. Watching from a position near the front of the house, Mr Bull saw the blind of a front window pulled slightly back, and the light of a torch appeared with g, man’s face against the window ,pame. Mr Bull was joined by a passer-by and a short while later a window on the other 'side of the house was opened and the sound of a man dropping to the ground was heard. Chase was immediately given, but for a while Mr Bull lost his quarry. He was then heard by Mr Bull at the foot of a section. Mr Bull chased him through a fence and over some vacant sections, being joined in the hunt by Mr J. Cain who lives a short distance away. The man led his pursuers across Moa Street and into Tui Street, where he was cornered by Mr Cain and submitted quietly. Air Bull then came up and the two men held him until the arrival of a constable. Although two rooms were ransacked, nothing of value was stolen.
