BOWLING.
WELCOME TO CANADIAN TEAM. WELLINGTON, This Day. A warm welcome on behalf of the people of New Zealand was extended to the Canadian bowlers at a Government reception at Parliament House to-day. The Hon. G. W. Forbes expressed regret at the absence of the Prime Minister. Sir Joseph II ard had asked him to o6nvey his personal good wishes, as well as the good wishes of the people of the Dominion. Mr Forbes ■expressed tli£ hope that the team would go away with a good impression of the Dominion. He referred to the appointment of Mr J. W. Collins as Trade Commissioner in Canada—a..man who was fully alive to the possibilities of increased trade between the two countries. Dr. Weston Krupp replied.
ASHBURTON v. ELLESMERE. A representative bowling match between the Ashburton and Ellesmere Centres’ steams will be played at Rakaia on Saturday. The teams will each comseven rinks, the Ashburton Centre’s team? fcfting composed of two rinks from oh'tb of tho Ashburton, Allenton and Rakaia clubs and one from the Methven Club. Ellesmere will select their rinks from the Dunsandel, Southbridge and Leeston clubs. The rinks from the Ashburton Club are as follow : No. I—Compton, Dunn, Higgins, and A. Lano (s); No. 2 —Doherty, Percy, Ensterbrook, and Milsom (s).
