SEARCH BY DETECTIVES. DEAD ABSCONDER'S SECRET. NEW YORK, January 4. Detectives have begun a search for £500.000 in cash, which was buried somewhere along the Texas-Mexico border by George Christian, a mystery absconder. Christian was the treasurer of a brokerage firm. He disappeared in 1924, his defalcations ruining hundreds of investors. A world - wide search failed to find him until March, 1928. Then he was arrested in San Antonio, Texas. The accused died before he was brought to trial. He left a fortune to his former stenographer.
