"MESSAGE TO WORLD."

PREMIER AND "TALKIES." (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 18. A very interesting incident took place at Heretaunga this morning, when the first Movietone record to be taken in New Zealand was secured by the Fox News car outfit which recently arrived from Sydney, the occasion being the recording of a message to the world by the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward. Sir Joseph, who was in excellent spirits, delivered a warm message of welcome, during which he briefly outlined the position of the Dominion today, emphasising the fact that its cities and ports possessed facilities which brought them into line with the leading centres of the world, and that in many other respects also the Dominion was thoroughly up-to-adte. He also dealt with the wonderful tourist attractions which surpass those framed in many other parts of the world, and he issued a cordial invitation to the people of all countries to come and see these, and to enjoy the hospitality which awaits them in the Dominion.

The proceedings went through without a hitch of any sort, Sir Joseph speaking in a firm, quiet tone, admirably suited for the purposes of recording, and the operators expressed themselves as being delighted with the result of their first effort in New Zealand.
