THE UNITED PARTY.
STATEMENT BY MR DAVY. '.Per Press Association.} AUCKLAND, January 18. Remarking on the silence of thePrime Minister and the members of Cabinet, Mr A. E. Davy, in a further statement, asks the public to judge of the veracity of the Prime Minister's statement. - "Ik-the attemnt of Sir Joseph \\ ard to cloud the issues and evade the charges," he says, "I cannot find one definite reply in rebuttal of my statements. 1 regret his unnecessarvi introduction of personalities, but in fairness to mvself, and in order to make the situation clear. I state emphatically that my statements were not prompted bv some vague threat, and the Prime Minister's assertion is entirely misleading and inaccurate. "I would remind the public that on the accession of the United Party to the Treasury Benches I made a promise that if thev did not keep their pledges I would work just as hard to put them out as 1 did to put them in. Sir Joseph Ward sat beside me as I stated this and my promise appeared in the Press next morning. 1 ask the public of New Zealand whether the "United Party has honoured its pledges." Mr Daw refers to Sir Joseph Ward's amazing assertion as to the naunber.of caucuses held, to his public castigation of five members of 'Cabinet, to his failure to fulfil his promise to borrow £70,090,000 at 4 J and 4| per cent., to his handling of the unemployment problem, and State Advances. "I am still awaiting some definite replv from the Prime Minister cr the Cabinet," concluded Mr Davy.
