THE HANAU SCANDAL
IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENTS. PARIS, December 28. Developments continue in the “Gazette du France” case. Thus far two suicides have been attributed to losses, and seven arrests have been made’of persons allegedly implicated. Two are at liberty provisionally. M. Audibert, the editor, who is seriously ill, can still not bo removed from his home. The latest arrest is that of M. Georges Anquetil, founder and director of “L’Arumeur,” a financial journal affiliated with the “Gazette du France,” on a charge of swindling and breach of trust. / . Altogether, the affair is assuming considerable proportions. It will even possibly affect the composition of Cabinet through the connection of M. Dumay, Minister for Agriculture, with “Quotidien,” which leased its financial publicity to Madame Hanau s con-» oeras.
Madame Hanau was arrested with her divorced husband early this month. She was running one of the biggest get-rich-quick schemes ever devised in France, her activities including the promotion of share investing companies and the conduct of the “Gazette du France.”
