ENTERTAINMENTS.

HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. "The Gateway of the Moon," featuring Dolores Del Rio, will be.screened to-night only. The story of "The Gateway of the Moon" deals with white men's efforts of building a railroad through the jungle at a ruthless cost to native life and happiness. This is supported by a vaudeville item, a remarkably thrilling balancing turn provided by Kadoina, a gifted Japanese, and his partner. For many minutes on end this remarkable pair of artists keep the audience in a state of breathless suspense by one of the most daring achievements that lias ever been exhibited in Ashburton. "The Girl from Chicago," screening Conrad Nagel and Myrna Loy will be shown to-morrow night.

DANCE AT TINWALD. A dance, in aid of the piano fund of the Tinwald Parish Hall, was held m the hall last evening. There was a fair attendance, music being played by Mrs Chapman (piano) and Mrs Whyte (violin).

FIREWORKS DISPLAY. Where to go on New Year's Eve is no longer worrying the people of Ashburton. Fireworks are so exhilarating and interesting that few people will miss the opportunity to witness the display to be held at the Domain Oval on that night. The Wainoni Fireworks. Ltd., realise that novelty is the great feature of modern entertainment, and that is why they are presenting such a new and varied programme for this magnificent function. New types of rockets and shells, some of the shells measuring 18 inches in circumference, will be used, and the cloudbursts of stars resulting from them, it is said, will be a| revelation to Ashburton. 1
