YOUNG MAN’S SKULL FRACTURED

.MOTOR-CYCLE STRIKES A DOG.

(Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, This Day

Mr Albert Howard, aged 23, a resident of Dunedin, was returning from Miller’s Flat on Sunday afternoon on .a motor-cycle, when ho collided with a dog in Whitehaven Street, Lawrence. He was picked up unconscious, and is in the Tuapeka Hospital in a. serious condition with a fractured skull.

DROWNED IN A CREEK.

NEW PLYMOUTH, March 29

Mr Otto Barr, an elderly fanner at ’.Tarata, was found'drowned in a creek ■rnn his property this evening by neighbours, who became alarmed when he failed to return to his house. He had' not been enjoying good health lately.

CHILD DROWNED AT TIMARU.

TIMARU, March 29.

A child two years of age, son of Mr -J. S. Wilhams, Temuka, was found; -drowned in a barrel in wliich was two feet of water. The child had been playing near the barrel.

CHILD RUN OVER BY LORRY. WELLINGTON, March 29. ' At the inquest to-day on Paul Jones, •aged five, whoi died of injuries received in Vivian Street on March 8, the evidence showed that the child was seen inu an injured condition and died soon after. Witness saw a lorry disappear round a corner, but all effort to trace it failed. The coroner, Mr Page, returned a verdict that the child was run over,- but there was no adequate evidence to identify the vehicle or the driver. He added that it was desirable that an instruction be given in schools as to the danger of fast moving traffic in the streets.

SAWMILL EMPLOYEE KILLED. 1 INVERCARGILL, March 29. Advice has been received of an acciMent, resulting in the death of a sawmill employee, Mr Charles Kirkland, on Friday, in the Catling River district. It appears that a log rolled on to deceased, causing fataHnjuries. Mr Kirkland was thirty-six years of age and was employed at the Lauriston mill, ’Tahakopa. He lost an arm about 20 years ago as the result of am accident at Waikawa. He leaves a widow and rfoun children.
