NEW MANAGER APPOINTED.

MR W. MACHIN SELECTED. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Mr W. Machin, who is at present New Zealand manager for Sims, Cooper and Co. (N.Z.), Ltd., has been appointed to the position of general manager of the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association of Canterbury, Ltd., in succession to Mr W. T. Esson, who recently resigned on being appointed to a position on the inspectorate of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd. The appointment of Mr Machin was confirmed at a meeting of the executive of the Board of Directors of the Association yesterday. Mr Machin will take up his duties with the Association early in May. _ “When the resignation of Mr Esson was accepted, the matter of filling his place was left to a special committee which was given power to act. This committee made inquiries concerning several men considered suitable for the position, and finally made a v finite offer to Mr Machin, which he accepted. The salary is higher than _ that paid previously by the Association. A pplications for the position were not invited.

Mr Macliin, who is 45 years of age, was educated at Derby Grammar School, England, and on leaving school was articled to a leading firm of accountants and auditors. During the war he was prominently connected with the wool and meat control organisations in Great Britain. In 1919 he came from England as New Zealand manager for Sims, Cooper and Co., and since then he lias resided at Christchurch. He has. been prominently connected with public affairs in this city, and is president of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce and vice-presi-dent of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of Now Zealand. He is also chairman of the Canterbury Provincial Committee of the Dunedin Exhibition, and has been president of the Christchurch Ratepayers’ Association and a vice-president _of the Canterbury Employers’ Association.
