METHVEN ENTERTAINMENT.
AN UNQUALIFIED SUCCESS FUNDS FOR FIRE BRIGADE. The First Alarm Concert Party gave its first entertainment in aid of the Methven Fire Biigade on Thursday evening before the largest audience ever seen in the hall. All seats had been reserved, and a large number ot bookings had to be refused. The gross takings realised over £oO. the nrst
part of the programme was supplied by a pierrot and pierrette troupe of 61 performers. Solos were given by Mesdames G. Anderson, J. F. Stone, I. Shearer, Messrs M. A. Stone A. Baxiter; D. C. Wright, W A.Haden, and iW. C. Batson; duets by Miss A. Dutt land Mrs Temple; trio Messrs Batson Wright, and Temple; local hits by the members of the company and a nveminute sketch by Mr and Mrs Temple. The second portion of the programme consisted of a revue entitled *ire written and produced by Miss A.. Dutt. The cast was as follows:— Angelina It tvt.-„„ a n.nff. TTnr.nee Algernon

Stone; firemen, Messrs Temple, Batson, Ridgen, Wright, Haden, and Bean; maide, Mesdames Temple and Stone. The revue concluded with roars of applause, accompanied by a shower of bouquets. On behalf of a number of donors, Mrs V\. Morgan presented a box of chocolates to every member of the company Mr J Carr, chairman of the Koaci Board, 'on behalf of the Fire Brigade, congratulated the company on the excellence of the programme. He stated that all the members bad paid tor then own costumes, and that never before had bookings to be refused for an en- . , Hf.i.l.„„„

Mr J F Stone, on behalf of the party, thanked Mr Oarr for his remarks and the audience for the keen appreof the National Anthem brought to a close one of the most suecessfnl concerts ever held m Methven. The members of the party then adjourned to the A and P. rooms .where a supper provided by a number of ladies and supervised by Mrs Morgan and Mrs McKee was partaken of.
A number of toasts were honoured, and Miss A. Duff received an ovation on risin" to respond to her toast blie Specially thanked Mrs Kennedy (accompaniste). Miss A. M Stone secrotarv)*, M, J. A hearty vote'of thanks to the ladies who projvicled the supper was carried with musical honours Votes of thank (were also accorded to Messrs Cookson Bros, and J. Osborne.
