ASHBURTON GALA.
SOME OF THE ATTRACTIONS. PROCESSION AND SPORTS.
Arrangements for the big Gala on Labour Day are now practically complete with the exception of minor details, and there is every indication that Monday's effort will surpass the Galas of previous years, successful to a marked degree though they have been. The programme this year is very attractive. Starting in the morning, there will be a procession of decorated vehicles, and much time and trouble is being expended on preparations tor this, both bv the organiser, 31r ri. Smallbone, and those who are competing. A novel display, and one that is sure to cause considerable interest, will be a scale model of Baring Square
West, with a war memorial, the design of Mr B M. Gabites, in a prominent position, ' The model has been constructed by Mr F. Clark for the Ashburton Miniature Rifle Club, and to the eye is extremely attractive, forming a good suggestion for the Meinor al Committee for future action. With the procession will march the band ot the Ist Canterbury Mounted Rifles and the Ashburton Pipe Band. . The comer
of Moore and East Streets is the starting place, and at 10 a.m.. the procession will set off for the Domain. The chief marshal, Lieut.
