GOLF. LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP. WON BY MRS DODGSHUN. WELLINGTON, Oct. 22. The ladies’ golf tournament was concluded at Miramar to-day, when Mrs Dodgsliun (Otago) defeated Mrs J. A. Cook (Otago) in the final of the New Zealand championship by eight up and seven. The play of both through the greens was very steady, that of Mrs Dodgshun being remarkably so, while her putting was up to a high standard. That of Mrs Cook was very weak indeed, and therein lay her downfall. It was her weakness in this respect that caused her in the morning round to be five down, although coming in her putting improved considerably. Again in the afternoon her putting was decidedly weak. To Mrs Cook’s credit, though meeting a lady whoso golf was machinelike in its ease and precision, she played gamely to the end, which came on the twenty-ninth green. Mrs Dodgshun commenced her golf at the a<_y. of 12 years at St. Clair links (Dunedin), which were situated on her father’s property. She received her early coaching from Mr J. Mullinder, the professional of the club, and from her brother, Mr J. Fotheringham, who was one of its prominent members. Mrs Dodgshun before her marriage twice won the championship of the St.. Clair Club and has twice been champion of the Otago Club, to which she belongs at present. For the last three years she has been open champion of Otago. Last Easter slie won the Canterbury open championship.
