BAND OF HOPE
MEETING AT TINWALD. The monthly meeting of the TinwaltT Band of Hope was held last evening. Vocal and musical items were given to a very appreciative audience. Ike programme was as follow: Recitations by Clifford Luxton, Bertha Barnes, Mr J.. Hitchens and Miss J. Lowery; e-ongs, Misses J. Elliott, E. Smith, N. O’Conor, R. Moodie, A. Gunn; pianoforte items by Mrs J. Roffery and Miss Gudsell. A pretty Gypsy and Indian scene was given by a party of girls under the direction of Mrs J. Roffery, and an instructive dialogue was given by the adult members. The Rev. A. G. Irvine recounted several stories and anecdotes illustrating the downward tendency of those who allowed drink to “staik” their lives and rob them of their manhood. He complimented the committee on the excellent audience of young people. The prizes for the year’s competitions were presented to the following successful competitors:—Vocal duet, Misses E. Challis and F. Challis; quartette, Missek Clucas, L. Rook, W. Marsden and W. Luxton; vocal solo, Misses E. Smith, M. O’Conor, F. Gudsell and N. Marsden and Master Roy Turner • recitations, Misses E. Smith, E. Lowery, V. Harris, B. Harris, M. Forsvth, B. Forsyth, B. Barnes, and Masters’Jim Patton and Cliff. Luxton; piano, Mi sses R. Watts, F. Gudsell, M. Wills and L. Book; special prizes for progress. Miss M. O’Conor; spec- [ ini for perserevence,Miss T.Bren.kwell.An ■ excellent supper was provided by the committee. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to all who took part in the entertainment.
