ELECTION CAMPAIGN

THE ASHBURTON SEAT. MR NOSWORTHY AT WAKANUI. A crowded audience met the Hon* W. Nosworthy, Government candidate, at the Wakanui School last night. In a lengthy address Mr Nosworthy dealt with a wide range of subjects, and for over half an hour was plied with questions, principally on the subject of wheat-growing. _ He said it was not correct that the duties on Australian wheat were to be removed, except for small quantities of fowl wheat underpermit. Milling wheat was being imported by the Government itself, lb would not be fair to consumers to keep up prices after the local crop had been sold. .

Mr G. W. Leadley, in moving a vote of thanks to the candidate, said his. replies had been very satisfactory, and he spoke euiogistically of Mr Nosworthy’s past services. The motion was seconded by Mr F. Frampton and carried unanimously. MR GALBRAITH AT ASHBURTON FORKS. Mr R. Galbraith, National candidatefor the Ashburton seat, addressed & good attendance of Ashburton Forks, Spreadeagle, and Greenstreet electors, in the Ashburton Forks School last evening. Mr T. Green presided. Mir Galbraith was given an attentive hearing, and at the conclusion of his address answered a number of questions. On the motion of the chairman he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. THE LABOUR CANDIDATE. Mr J. N. Harle, official Labour candidate, addressed a large gathering, of Mount Somers electors in the Memorial Hall last evening, there being a fair number of ladies present. The candidate was accorded a hearty vote of thanks on the motion of Mr Cummings. THE GISBORNE CONTEST. GISBORNE, This Day. Mr W. D. Lysnar has been nominated, •for the Gisborne seat. DUNEDIN CENTRAL SEAT. - DUNEDIN, This Day. The Hon. Charles E. Statham has been nominated for Dunedin Central.
