ASHBURTON ! MARKET REPORT. In consequence of the recent rain, farmers would be well advised to stack their remaining wheat in stook, as already considerable quantities have been rejected, both for shipment and by Very few lines of goodconditioned stuff are coining to hand. Although farmers have had several .warnings from the Government in this connection a good number prefer to take risks and this course must eventually prove a costly procedure, as fowl wheat has already been purchased at a considerable reduction on the fixed milling prices. Lines of good fluality fit for milling are being handled without difficulty. Fowl wheat may be quoted at 4s 6d f.0.b., and smutty lines at even less. The oat market is weaker. Further Australian business is improbable in the meantime as their market is also declining. The North Island demand is steady with an absence of any speculation. Gartons may be quoted at 2s 4d to 2s od, Algerians 2s to 2s 2d, with an increase for last year’s oats f.o.b. for se'ed, Duns 2s to 2s 6d, according to quality. Chaff is in small demand at £3 ss. Ryegrass of good weight and colour is improved whilst light samples are practically neglected. . The same remarks apply to Italian and West iWolths. To-day’s values range from 2s 6d to 3s, according to quality. Linseed at present is quiet and with a weaker feeling in the Calcutta market, the demand is not brisk, worth to-day £ll to £l2 on trucks.
