BOWLING.

BULLOCK PENNANT .WATCHES.

PLAY IN SECOND ROUND.

A particularly interesting and exciting game was played on Saturday evening between the Thursday and the Saturday rinks of the Ashburton Bowling Club, resulting m a win for the Thursday players by the narrow margin of six points. The Saturday players m the first round had beaten tho Thursday players- somewhat easily, so now the Thursday players have to play the Rakaia Club, and if they win that game 'the two Ashburton teams tie, necessitating a play-off to decide which team shall have the honour of being the first to have its win embossed on the pennant. The strongest taams representing each side had been picked, but at the j .last moment the Thursday players were without the services of Cookson and Carter, while J. Lane, took Christie's place m the Saturday rink. The excitement was intense throughout the w hole game, and toward 'the finish each bowl was watched with intense interest. The' Thursday players .were up on three rinks and down- on one. The gamd between' Stevenson (S.) And Stewart (T.) was -very close and cVren, the scoring being i very small on onoh side. The score tvas 11 all on the 13th head, Stewart being five up at the finish. Stevenson's lead and second played well, but his third was completely off. Stewart, on his side, was the only one who played well. Craighead (T.), fresh from the honours of the Dominion tournament, was too good for Moodie. (S.), though Moodie hung on to him gamely, for on the 14th head the game was 15-14 m Oraighead'a . favour. Moodie only scored once afterwards, being 10 down at the end. Craighead was fortunate m having all his men, especially Rae, playing well, while Moodie' s second and third players failed him. The game between McLauchlan (S.) and Galbraith (T.) was remarkable for tiie big lead that McLauchlan got early m the game, for. on the 11th head he was 21 to 4. Galbraith, well assisted by Madden, then scored on iive successive heads, and finished up 15 down. McLauchlan played brilliantly, and was well sustained by his men, especially his lead. '■ ( On No. 1 rink Higgins (T.), by good play, got away from W. Lane (S.) early, and at half-time was 17 to Lane's 2. Lane then, by the aid .of a four, a five, and a three, made a good recovery, being only six down at the finish. It was .owing to Higgins' s good play that his rink was up. j The following are the scores : — McSherry, Easterbrook, J. Lane, McLauchlan, skip (S.) 28 v. "Wilson, Madden, McEirea, Galbraith, skip (T.; It),

Watson, Hoaken, Shearman, Stevenson, skip (S.) 14 r. A. T. Smith, Morgan, Percy, Stewart, skip (T.) 19. Barr, Harle, Boothroyd, Moodie, skip (S.) 17 v. Dixon, Rae, O'Brien, Craighead, skip (T.) 27.
