LATE MR. JOSHUA TUCKER.

The funeral of *th,e late Mr Joshua Tucker, which took place this afternoon, at the Ashburton Cemetery, was a striking tribute to - ; the esteem with which the ' deceased gentleman was regarded, the funeral procession being the longest yet seen its& Ashtfurton. The mourners were the immediate members of the late Mr Tucker's family, while the pallbearers were provided by the Oddfellows' ;■, Lodge.! The Bth (South Canterbury) Regimen^: tal Band headed. ;tKe cortege.- Among; the local body representatives present were the Mayor (Mr R. Galbraith) and borough councillors, the county chairman (Mr- C. Reid) and county councillors, and - Messrs A. Horsey^ JAllen, Hunter Morris, F. W. Watt, Robert * Bell, J. Cow, A. Roberts, R. Clark, T. J. Hunter,. F. Frampton, W. J. Taylor, W. Lochhead, and W. T. Lill. Among the local bodies and institutions represented were the Ashburton High School Board, Technical School Board. Ashburton Permanent Building and Investment Society, A. and P. Association, Racing Club, and the Ashburton Road Board,, the Temperance. Band (now the Bth (S.C.) Regimental Band), the Masonic Order, and local sporting bodies. Mr Tucker i subscribed to the original charter of j the Somerset Lodge, Masonic Order, and was one of the original members of the now defunct Caledonian Society. service at the graveside was performed by the Rev. Mr Scorgie. At the monthly meeting oi directors of -the Ashburton Permanent -Bu^dfiifj;. and Investment Society/ on jbhe, motion; of Mr Robert Bell, a resolution was passed expressing; the deep regret of the Society at the death of Mr Joshua Tucker, who had been a member of the directorate for many years, and chairmar since 1917. It was further decided to forward a letter of con dolence to Mr Tucker's wife and family and, as a mark of respect, the ordinary business of the meeting was adjourned until to-night.
