PACIFIC ISLAND MANDATES. (Per Press Association Copyright.) (Received January 31, 9.25 a.m.) TOKIO, January 29. Replying to interpellations m the Diet, Baron Uchida stated that negotiations were proceeding with Britain to secnr© equal treatment of coloured peoples m the South Pacific islands. The treaty clauses dealing with the islands south of the Equator had. not yet been interpreted. Japan favoured a policy which would ensure equal opportunity for Japanese and British and desires to respect the mandate administrations south of the Equator.
