CHRISTCHURCE, May 15, Word was received by the Union Company late tost night at Lytte-lton that the s.s. Maori had been held up at Wellington, owing to a shortage of •seven firemen. In consequence theio will bo no ferry steamer from Welling,ton this morning. As far a.s tfin be se«n tliere ivill be no vessel to take ferry steamer passengers, north k>nighty but the s..s. Kaiapoi will arrive from l>unedin this mom nig, and leave for Wellington to-night, probablyl'taking the mails. i A number of the- Arawa's men belong to the North Island, and the _ stoppage .of the ferry service wiiH seripiioly in- : convenience them.
