MAN BREAKS HIS NECK.

CHRISTCHURCH, May 10. Alexander D. 'Matheson, a returned soldier, about thirty-four years of age, met his death yesterday under distressing circumstances. .On returning from driving with his uncle, with whom he resided on the Belfast Road, the horse was taken out of the vehicle arid left in the yard. Shortly afterwards the animal bolted. Mr Matheson went after it, and was,riding it back when he fell off and broke his neck. ■ It is not known whether anything caused the horse to shy and throw its rider. An inquest will be held to-day.
