At the Anglican General Synod today the Laymen's Committee recommended tliau a considerable increase be made in. the clerical stipends, Which, it was stated, are now utterly inadequate. Synod expressed recognition of the noble response of churchmen to the call of the Empire, sympathy with, bereaved parents and. wives, and the sick and disabled, its hope for prompt liberal treatment by t'iie Government of the disabled, and appreciation of the work of the Church Army. Speakers during ,the discussion condemned the treatment of consumptives by the Government, and complained that they were being discharged uncured. Synod recommended the promoting of church schools in the centres.
