SOUTH RAKAIA DOMAIN BOARD.
The quarterly meeting of- the South Rakaia 'Domain Board was held .on Monday. There ' were present: The Hon. (J. A. C. Hardy (chairman), and Messrs T. Blackley, J. McLean, T. Morl'and, and A. J. Magson. It was stated that a grant of £3G had been received from the Ashburton County Council. This was included in the total balance of £148 15s 6d.
The. following accounts were passed for payment:—Donation to Bowling and Tennis Clubs as part share of caretaker's salary £30, pavilion repairs and additions £5 4s 2d, labour £7 4s 9d.
It was decided to paint the old pavilion and the bathing sheds.
The Chairman stated that instructions had been given to 'have the swimming bath drained, with a- view to having it thoroughly cleaned, of weeds.
A deputation from the Bowling Club, consisting of Messrs J. Sowden and H. Haydock, waited on the Board to solicit financial assistance towards the building of a. pavilion to servo the bowling, croquet and tennis cliubs. After the deputation had withdrawn, the Board agreed to vote the sum of £80 towards the scheme.
The meeting then adjourned, to t the Domain on a visit of inspection. r :■'
The site for the . proposed ' pavilion was first inspected, and. approved of, and it was agreed that several very large pine-trees- alongside the -croquet lawn should be cut down. •.
In anticipation, of I*eace Day, the Domain is being put in thorough order, and members expressed themselves as well pleased with the tidiness of the grounds, and with the good order in whidh everything was found.
It was agreed to have the large hedge round the swimming pond c;nt, and to have repairs effected at a dangerous spot at the rear ot the bathing sheds. J
